Taste of Bethesda!

This Saturday marks the best food day of the year (after Thanksgiving): TASTE OF BETHESDA!!!

It's happening this Saturday, October 4 from 11am to 4pm in downtown Bethesda. Tons of restaurants in Bethesda set up shop in the street and sell samples of their delicious foods for 1-4 tickets. Tickets are $1.25 and admission is free :D

I've gone the last two years and I can vouch for its awesomeness. There's lots of variety, lots of deliciousness and it's pretty cheap too :D

Don't miss it!

I'll also mention Art on the Avenue, a street festival in on Mount Vernon Ave in Del Ray is also happening on Saturday. The website doesn't really describe the food available, but I remember from last year the restaurants of Del Ray set up on the street selling their delicious food too :) I also remember that the Del Ray cookoff is judged during the festival, but I don't know any details.

Busy day on Saturday!!

Generous George's

Last night, I went to Generous George's Pizza and Pasta on Duke St in Alexandria. We ordered cheesy garlic bread and a large pepperoni pizza with half pineapple. The garlic bread was mediocre. The pizza was amazing! The crust was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Also, they put a TON of pineapple on it :D
I've also had their "pasta pies" which is a pizza crust topped with enough pasta for three meals!
Dinner was $10.50 a person for three of us, including tip. We had two pieces of pizza leftover (and I got to take them home!)
Generous George's is at 3006 Duke St in Alexandria. Go there and get some pizza.

Taqueria Poblano, Del Ray

Tonight I went to Taqueria Plabano in Del Ray for dinner. I've been meaning to check it out for years (literally!) but the combination of my laziness, their weird hours, and it always looking super crowded...it just never happened. Tonight the stars aligned and it was great! It was different than other Mexican restaurants I've been to, and based on the reviews I've read, I think that's because its considered Cal-Mex, rather than Tex-Mex or Mexican/Salvadorean.

The menu consists of mostly tacos/appetizers and only a handful of platters. I got chorizo and potato tacos (on special) and they were delicious! If anything, they were a little heavy on the potato and light on the chorizo, but covered with just the right about of cheese and some pico de gallo. Most tacos are a la carte, but this was a platter and I got extra rice and no beans (because I hate them) and it also came with gauc!
Check it out!

AC/KC Del Ray is going to open soon!!!!!

A few weeks ago I posted with great anticipation and joy and excitement that ACKC would be opening a Del Ray location. They finally took the paper off the windows today and it looks like they're going to open soon! Wow!!! The day they open will be the happiest day of my life (unless it is more than 80 degrees outside)!!

An article in The Examiner says that the Del Ray location will have seating for 10 people, and will also serve Dolcezza gelato and frozen drinks and sell chocolates, which sounds like the DC location (though I haven't been there since it warmed up, so I can't comment on the frozen treats). I'm not sure that the gelato could possibly compete with the The Dairy Godmother, a block or two away, but I look forward to seeing if the frozen hot chocolate is as awesome as their hot hot chocolate :)

Tour de Cupcake!

Tour de Cupcake may be my greatest food-related fantasy ever imagined...and on Saturday it became a reality! Biking, 3 cupcake stops, friends and grilling! What else could you want? A sunny day? We had that too!

Stage 1: Bike 4.5 miles
Stop 1: Cake Love, Shirlington
Here I had a vanilla cupcake with lime frosting. It was good except it cost over $3!

Stage 2: Bike 4.4 miles
Stop 2: Buzz, Slaters Lane, Alexandria
Here I had a red velvet cake-a-roon, kind of like a cupcake sandwich!

Stage 3: Bike 1.3 miles
Stop 3: Bittersweet, Old Town Alexandria
Here I had a carrot cake cupcake with a mystery, non-cream cheese frosting. I was too full to finish it :(

Stage 4: Bike 1.5 miles
Stop 4: My house for some grilling!!!

Next year will be bigger and better!!
