Since I enjoy things that involve a food destination, one of my favorite things to do is ride my bike to Eastern Market for black and white cookies :D I've been fantasizing about making black and white cookies for a few weeks now. Today was the day! And they turned out great!! It is tough finding a recipe, though. I used this recipe for the cookie and this recipe for the frosting. I followed the recipe for the cookies, but added vanilla to the white frosting and used chopped semi-sweet chocolate chips AND cocoa powder and a little milk for the chocolate frosting. They turned out really well and weren't nearly as time consuming as expected!

Sugar Cookies!

When I make cookies, its a terrible disaster because I eat them all!! This time was no exception, but they were awesome!! I used this sugar cookie recipe and then topped them with an icing of butter, milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar! And then I ate them the whole next day....

Girl Scout Cookies
Today was the second greatest day of the year: the day my Girl Scout cookies arrived!!!!! I ordered five boxes: 2 thin mints, 2 shortbreads, and 1 lemon chalet cream (new flavor!).
Well....I got the cookies at 9am and by 10:00 the box of lemon chalet creams was 3/4 gone and needed to be sent away for hiding. They were so good!
Little Brownie Bakers describes them as a "cinnamon-ginger spice" sandwich cookie with lemon cream in the middle. I think I liked them so much because they didn't skimp on the cream. I didn't notice the cinnamon-ginger spice part. Wow! I highly recommend finding a booth with Girl Scouts and buy as many as you can.

Christmas cookies
Last Sunday, we made Christmas cookies! There were two batches of Alton Brown's sugar cookies (the roll out kind). The recipe is very easy. Rolling out takes some time, but it isn't hard since the recipe calls for them to be a quarter inch thick. We frosted them with a white frosting from Allrecipes, which I'd recommend. Nothing special, but it was the right texture for cookies and it hardened slightly. I did use butter instead of shortening because shortening weirds me out.
Alton Brown also has three chocolate chip cookie recipes: chewy, crispy and puffy. We made one batch of the chewy. I usually have very good results with this recipe, but we messed up somewhere this time and the cookies went from underdone to overdone way too fast. Still, I'd recommend this recipe based on my past successes.
Here's are links for the cookies/frosting:

I used butter, instead of shortening, in this recipe.

I used unbleached, all-purpose flour, instead of bread flour, in this recipe.
